The Application Process

Applications from faculty mentors and MURI Scholars (students) are sought throughout the year. See MURI website for announcements.

How to Identify a Project and Form a MURI Research Team

Mentors design MURI projects and apply to the institute by filling out and submitting the MURI Mentors application form. This form declares the goals and plans of the project and is filled out by the faculty member who wishes to lead a project. The applications are evaluated by a Board of MURI Advisors. Project evaluation forms for advisors can be downloaded here.

Students consult the web page on which the MURI Projects are posted and chooses a project. Students must contact the faculty member leading the project to get permission to apply to the project to become a team member. Each faculty project leader evaluates the student applications. Each student on a team must fill out the Muri Scholars application form which can be downloaded here.

What is a Team:

1. A MURI team must be formed with at least two students.
2. The team must work on an inter/multidisciplinary project.
3. Students from schools outside Engineering also are encouraged to apply.
4. Students from sciences, arts and humanities, business, and the social sciences can make significant and important contributions to engineering projects.

Qualifications to be Team Member:

1. Completion of at least 50 credit hours in the major.
2. GPA >= 3.00.

Student applicants apply to one of the announced MURI projects by sending a copy of their transcript and by filling out and submitting the MURI Scholars application form. Each member of a team applies separately to the MURI program. Each application will be evaluated by the MURI mentor of the project for which the student applies.
