Faculty members and graduate students wishing to participate in MURI at IUPUI should contact the MURI Director, Elizabeth Rubens.
The MURI at IUPUI is a research program that brings teams of student scholars and teams of research mentors together at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), to foster inter/multidisciplinary team research. Projects involving more than one discipline are encouraged. Interested students may apply to projects that are defined by mentors of MURI. For more information you may contact Elizabeth Rubens, Director of Undergraduate Research Programs by email at erubens@iupui.edu

Center for Research and Learning MURI Application Form
The IUPUI Center for Research and Learning and the IUPUI Purdue School of Engineering and Technology MURI Program established a campus-wide MURI program, entitled IUPUI MURI, that has been open to all disciplines since Spring Semester 2008. This program funds several inter/multidisciplinary undergraduate research projects (IUPUI MURI projects) under the mentorship of faculty members in any discipline, and in any undergraduate, graduate, or professional school or unit on the IUPUI campus. The IUPUI MURI Mentorship Program is an extension of the original MURI Program housed in the School of Engineering and Technology.
Applications are sought from all IUPUI faculty and researchers who are interested in mentoring undergraduates to conduct inter/multidisciplinary research in teams of at least two students studying in different disciplines. This is a unique opportunity provided to IUPUI faculty and researchers for mentoring students while earning research funds and conducting pilot projects. The deadline for proposal submission by mentors is September 10 for 2009-2010 for academic year projects. The IUPUI MURI Selection Committee will review the submitted proposals. Winning proposals are announced at http://crl.iupui.edu/muriIUPUI/student.asp and student applications will be accepted from September 28 through October 9, 2009.
Academic year projects extend from October 15 through May 1. For academic year (AY) projects there is only one call for proposals in early fall. For AY 2009-2010 the deadline for proposals is September 10.
Student participants will receive a stipend of $1,200 during the academic year for working on a MURI project supervised by an IUPUI mentor. For academic year projects, the students are expected to work at least 120 hours to complete the research projects defined by an IUPUI mentor or mentors. No cost extensions are possible to complete projects for the Academic Year beyond May 1.
The Summer MURI is a nine-week program that begins on the first Monday in June and extends for nine weeks, jointly with the UROP Summer Fellows Program. All applicants to the IUPUI MURI Summer Scholars Program are asked also to complete the IUPUI UROP Summer Fellows application materials. Due to the competitiveness of the MURI Summer Scholars and UROP Summer Fellows programs, the approval of a mentor does not guarantee final approval by the MURI director. The decision for final selections will be made competitively, in consultation with the mentors, after the student-application deadline. The student participants will receive a stipend of $3,200 for working on a MURI project supervised by an IUPUI mentor or mentors. The participating students will also be expected to attend the professional development activities organized by the UROP program.
The block grant option is available for professors and researchers teaching regular classes or working with small groups of students on special projects. See information on how to support class research under this program at http://crl.iupui.edu/muriIUPUI/block.asp.
